With the commencement of the Seoul-Pusan High speed railway project in 1992, the curtain rose on the Era of Express Trains in Asia. JARTS provides technical cooperation for the construction of high speed railways in China and also extends technical assistance to the Japan Consortium for the Taiwan High Speed Railway.
In many large cities in Asia, population concentration and advanced motorization have caused serious social problems including traffic jam and environmental problems such as pollution. The environment-friendly urban railways are considered to be an effective measure to deal with environmental deterioration, and JARTS has rendered technical services in many countries for the construction and improvement of urban railways. Major projects recently implemented are shown below.
Based on transportation policies for minimizing government's financial support to national railways, privatization or management reform has become a trend among the current world's railways. By utilizing the actual experiences in Japan, JARTS has made relevant recommendations in the studies of privatization or management improvement of Egyptian National Railways, Polish State Railways and Bulgarian Railways.
